Wichita Native - Kansas Proud
Roger Elliott is a Wichita native who grew up on the fringes of District 87, spending K-12 school years living in neighboring Lincoln Heights. He attended Hyde Elementary and Robinson Junior High before attending Wichita East High School. He is a proud graduate of Wichita State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Roger faithfully served his country as a member of the Kansas Air National Guard and was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base for six years. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.
Roger and his wife, Nancy, were married in the original Eastminster Presbyterian Church, at 9th and Armour, in 1982. They built a home in the early ‘90s on the old Hartman polo fields less than a mile east.
Expert, Leader, Advisor
Roger’s professional career was primarily in commercial banking with the former BANK IV, Central Bank & Trust based in Hutchinson and CornerBank based in Winfield. He was employed as a commercial lender at both banks. Roger was instrumental in establishing CornerBank’s operation in Wichita and building a portfolio of loan customers. After his retirement in 2012 from his position as a Senior Vice President, Roger remained involved as an Advisory Board member for the Wichita branch.
Roger was also employed with the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce, specializing in business retention and recruitment. He was instrumental in coordinating client projects between city, county, and state agencies. This experience has given Roger a deep understanding of both local and state economic needs and what it takes to implement the best strategies across multiple agencies.
One could say being politically active runs in the family. Roger’s maternal great grandfather was a member of the Kansas Senate in the mid-1930s, representing southeast Kansas.
Roger was an active member of the Andover Board of Education for 12 years, with his appointment concluding in June 2015. During his time on the board, he served as President, Vice President, Board Representative to the Butler County Inter-local for Special Education services, and Government Relations Representative for local, state, and federal issues.
Roger also served on the Board of Directors for the Andover YMCA when it first opened.
Committed Family Man
Roger’s family includes his wife, Nancy, three children Jeff, Jessica, and Jacquie, and nine grandchildren.
Roger and Nancy are members of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church where he serves on the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
Nancy, a Wichita State alum and retired School Psychologist, volunteers with Meals on Wheels.
The Elliott family has a deep respect for life and the rights of all people to live a quality life of their choosing.
